Rant number 143
Back before the motorway was always 50 bloody miles an hour, I used to get home at around 6pm if I left work in time. It seems however that those lazy hazy days are gone, because now I get home at about 6.15 consistantly.
Beyond this rather annoying stolen one hour & 15 minutes per week (just think how much time that makes over a year. I could do so many things more useful than wishing painful death upon the idiots who made the motorway 50 miles an hour) there is another side effect that has recently developed.
You see, at around 6pm each day, radio one has a '10 minute takeover' whereby members of the public can text in their favourite songs to hear them on the radio. Harmless fun indeed.
Now, I personally don't know why someone who isn't in the middle of driving would bother either texting in or listening. I have CD's & MP3s with my favourite songs on them and really don't need them to come on in lesser quality on the radio for me to enjoy them. None the less, the idea is a bit of fun.
Each day, three peoples text messages are chosen - and those three songs are played on the radio for all and sundry to listen to. I get that - to some this is all about showing who you are and what you like - through the medium of someone else's music.
If that is the case however, what I don't understand is why text in the songs they do. Who knew people were so bloody boring. Day after day, the songs that are texted in are recent - and are the kind of stuff that is normally on the radio anyway. Its crazy.
Is your favourite song really something that came out last year by some boring group that everyone has already forgotten about - are you really that dull? Why aren't people a bit more eclectic?
What about something like 'Welcome to the House of Fun' by Madness or 'Golden Brown' by the Stranglers or something that isn't just out of the charts from the mid 00's - show you actually have tastes other than what you are told is the in thing.
It's like the last meal scenario. You can ask for anything: glutton yourself up good on pickled ostrich toes, fillet of pigmy hippo, badger burgers or anything else you can think of. They have to make it happen for you before they hook you up to old sparky or whatever.
But what do they all ask for? A burger and fries, a coke. Why make things so easy for your wood be executors!
I wish people would branch out a bit in all things!

Rant 49 - 18/2/12 Subject: Irritating facebook trends
Rant number 49
Back to ranting about facebook we go, and this time its the current trend for these 'what I do', 'what my mum thinks I do' etc etc things.
These type ideas pop up every now and then to flood my news feed. The thing is that a quirky idea of this type is like a lamp:
One in a room is a design feature.
Two in a room even works well.
Three starts to look a little bit odd
Four in a room looks like the product of a diseased mind.
Fifty is just mental (there are lamps everywhere now and no-where to sit.)
A hundred is ludicrous and makes the room all but impenetrable.
And this applies well to how people react to these things. The first is a laugh, the second a giggle, the third a chortle, the fourth a disinterested 'meh', the fifth a grunt of impatience, the sixth a groan of annoyance - and so on and so forth until eventual suicide.
But people are going to keep making them for weeks in a pathetic attempt to jump on the bandwagon, become 'popular' and to have their cool and individual (not individual at all, because its just a variation on someone else's originality) 'idea' shared across facebook.
To these people, I say - just stop. Go somewhere quiet and think about what you did. In-fact, how about you go and think of something original instead!
I hope this fad ends soon, its getting on my tits (and you all know how hard it is to annoy me...)
