Rant number 336
Nearly there - one month to go.
Today, I was helping out another band and so I went on a jaunt to Salford.
I've not really had much reason to go to Salford in my time living in the north. I've been there maybe 3-5 times since I moved to the north - always for bands.
In the past, I've managed to wangle lifts for these things - but today that wasn't on the cards, so I turned on the sat nag and - with boundless optimism waded into the fray.
Now, in the past - I've been quite uncharitable towards 'Delia' - my sat nav - and she is by no means blameless. She's liable to giving instructions too late, incorrectly or misleadingly. She's also liable to forget things like traffic lights and no entry signs.
Today though, I don't really think that the delay, confusion, traffic and detour were her fault.
It was the fault of the incredibly complicated road system in Salford.
It seems you see, that the town planners who set up the roads in Salford had one plan and one plan only in mind - to ensure that the only way to get to where you need to go is first go to everywhere else. It's a similar plan to many areas around Manchester - and pretty much all big cities.
Going one way, with multiple lanes - with each lane going to somewhere different takes a fair amount of interpretation for someone who knows the city. For someone armed only with a slightly manic sat-nav which can only inform you of where to go - not which lane you needed to be in a mile ago its nigh impossible.
I hate this kind of urban driving. Its bloody awful!
Rant over.
