Rant 122 1/5/12 Subject: Celebrity witch hunts

Rant number 122

Today on the news, there was much talk about the Murdochs and the aftermath of the contentious 'Phone hacking' scandal.

I have no great love of either James or Rupert Murdoch - nor the papers that they are in charge of.

I think that it is deplorable that they have almost definately profited from some really inhuman actions by some really self serving and unscrupulous people.
I think that they are blasé about a really unpleasant issue, I think that they are terrible human beings.

For all of that though, I think that the current witch hunt that's going on involving them is not going to help anyone, and it really needs to stop.

People like the Murdochs have already got it, money, power and reputation (although the latter is arguably in tatters at the moment. If you push them away, they'll just take their money elsewhere and start all over again. You can't hurt them.

The thing is though, that thousands of people rely on their newspaper for their livelihood. Not only those within the papers internally but those who print them, distribute them, sell them etc.

People like a bad guy to point at and say 'boo and hiss' and the Murdochs fit the bill pretty well. They've got everything and have no remorse to show for the situation. That doesn't mean that they are necessarily guilty though.

No-one has owned up for phone hacking truly, but it wouldn't be the Murdochs would it. They are not the kind of people who get the stories, or even read them. They're the kind of people who sit at the top and watch the money roll in. Does that make them bad people? yes. Does that make them guilty? no

It annoys me also that the politicians are sticking their oar in now - the hypocritical arse-holes. Just because someone has been caught out being a shit-head it doesn't mean your behaviour is any better.

Why don't we drop the witch hunts and get back to the things that actually matter?

Rant over.
