Rant number 131
Why oh why are so many things so over engineered. What on earth happened to the quickest and simplest solution being the best.
I know I've specifically talked about iTunes in the past being a pain in the ass (and this is once again my inspiration.) iTunes however is not the only example of this plague.
Everything around me seems to be getting too many features - getting too complicated. Its not a lack of being able to deal with it (before anyone accuses me of this) its just me not getting the why!
Things need to be simple to work well. That makes sense to everyone - surely?
Another example is Microsoft office (and windows in general) who seem determined to do away with the humble drop down menu - replacing them with tabs of buttons and pictograms.
I can read, and would imagine anyone who uses office could too. Why then do away with simple drop down readable menus. Why play with it. Why make it so a monkey could work it - why!?
Even Facebook gets more and more complex each and every time to work. Its going to take a Mensa membership to update your status at this rate!
People think they are being smart with this endless tinkering - but really, don't fix it if its not broken!
